The French rail network is justifiably envied across the world. With Paris as a central hub, high speed train lines stretch across the country, making journey times over long distances surprisingly short. The jewel in the crown of the French railway system (SNCF) is the much-heralded (and much invested in) Train A Grande Vitesse - or TGV, as it is usually known).
The initial SNCF TGV service, between Paris and Lyon, was unveiled in 1981, and there are currently seven lines on the high speed network. These Lignes A Grande Vitesse are as follows:
LGV Sud-Est (Paris Gare du Lyon to Lyon-Perrache)
LGV Nord (Paris Gare du Nord to Lille)
